LAS CRUCES - The Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund is pleased to announce the 2011 award of $55,000 to La Clinica de Familia Health Centers for the continuation and expansion of the AVON Breast Care Project. The AVON Project aims at increasing the number of women who have annual checkups for early detection of abnormalities.

The AVON Project provides education and support for women over the age of 40. They stress the importance of monthly breast self exams, annual clinical breast exams, and mammograms. The Foundation notes that women over the age of 65 are eligible for Medicare coverage for mammograms.
