LAS CRUCES - Three teenage boys and two young men were indicted on charges of murder this week in last month's killing of an 18-year-old O-ate High School football player and a 57-year-old Vietnam War veteran.
Andrew "Tuna" Martinez, 24, was charged with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence by a Do-a Ana County grand jury on Thursday. Martinez allegedly stabbed 18-year-old OHS senior Anthony Sena, then fatally bludgeoned Jerry Zamarripa, 18, with a golf club at an East Mesa house party early Feb. 21. If convicted, he faces a maximum 18 years in prison, according to the 3rd Judicial District Attorney's Office.
Martinez remains in jail under a $500,000 bond.
The three teens and 23-year-old Aaron Valdivia who allegedly killed Julian Pe-a Sr., a Mesilla Park grandfather and longtime Walmart employee, have all been charged with first-degree murder, shooting at an occupied dwelling, conspiracy and tampering with evidence. The four allegedly thought they were targeting the home of Martinez, who lived five miles away.
Johnny Ray Vallejos, 16, the alleged shooter, 19-year-old Homero Avalos, and 17-year-old Myles V. Calderon have been charged as adults. If convicted, all four face almost 44 years in prison, according to the 3rd Judicial District Attorney's Office.
All but Valdivia had extensive criminal histories in New Mexico, according to court records.
The state has also asked for all four of their bonds to be increased to $1 million.
