LAS CRUCES - A Las Cruces man was sentenced Thursday to almost two years in prison for running away from an Albuquerque halfway house, according to U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales.

Gabriel Valdivia, 25, was serving a two-year sentence for violating conditions of his supervised release when he left the Diersen Charities halfway house Oct. 1, 2010, and failed to return, according to a criminal complaint.

He pleaded guilty to the charge Nov. 3, 2010.

U.S. Senior District Judge John E. Conway sentenced Valdivia Thursday to 15 months of imprisonment on the escape charge and an additional eight months for a violation of Valdivia's conditions of supervised release. After his 23 months in prison, Valdivia has been sentenced to three years supervised release.
