LAS CRUCES - Curtis Rosemond manages a store in Las Cruces that hires and employs hundreds of people, he owns a company - which is overseen by Donald Trump, no less - that helps bring national attention to New Mexico and, oh yeah, he somehow finds space in his schedule to devote time to charities and nonprofit organizations.

That makes Rosemond, 52, a figure to watch during the upcoming year.

He manages the Walmart on Walton Boulevard. The company gave him a gold ring in 2001 when his store was named Supercenter of the Year for the whole nation. Now in his 22nd year with the store here, Rosemond said 2010 was "really, really good," and he expects 2011 to be "great."

His company, CR Productions Entertainment Management, also puts on the Miss New Mexico and Miss Teen New Mexico pageants. He attends the national competitions, conducted by Trump's Miss Universe.

Rosemond said he likes to be involved in the Las Cruces community as well. He has worked with the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce and is a past chairman of the board, and he has been on the board of directors of groups like Habitat for Humanity. In fact, he said that at one time, he was on six boards at once. He has chaired The Whole Enchilada Festival and the city's Fourth of July event,

This year he is vice president of the Do-a Ana Branch NAACP, has been installed as a junior deacon with the Jornada Masonic Lodge and also works with the Salvation Army.

first retail store at the age of 19 and has been with Walmart since 1984. Since then, he said he has mentored more than 20 employees who've gone on to manage their own stores. His love of Las Cruces and his day-to-day interaction with customers and employees has kept him from accepting opportunities to advance past his store.

"I never wanted to because I enjoy working with people," he said. "I have a lot of contact with people. That's my joy in life."

Walmart is expected to break ground at some point on a third store in Las Cruces, but Rosemond said he does not know when that will be.
