LAS CRUCES - The holiday weekend resulted in numerous drinking and driving arrests and one alcohol-related crash with injuries on state highways, according to statistics compiled by New Mexico State Police.

State police officers responded to four crashes in Do-a Ana County, one of which is believed to have been caused by drunken driving, according to state police. In addition, seven arrests were made for drunken driving, 52 drivers were cited for speeding, seven were cited for not wearing seat belts and two were cited for improper child restraints. Officers also assisted 11 motorists over the New Year's weekend.

Statewide, there were two fatal car crashes, out of 62 total crashes, 30 drunken driving arrests, 272 speeding citations issued and 75 motorist assists.
