LAS CRUCES - Las Cruces police will battle Las Cruces firefighters on the gridiron Saturday in a flag football game to benefit La Casa domestic violence shelter.

The seventh annual flag football game between officers and firefighters kicks off at 10:30 a.m. at the New Mexico State University practice field, just west of Aggie Memorial Stadium.

The police officers, also known as Las Cruces' Finest, will try to avenge their 2010 loss to the firefighters, Las Cruces' Bravest. The overall series is tied 3-3.

The public is invited to attend the game and cheer on their favorite team. Admission is free, but both departments are asking fans to bring non-perishable food items that will be donated to La Casa domestic violence shelter in Las Cruces.

La Casa is a non-profit organization that offers safe housing, counseling and support services to victims of domestic violence and their children.
