LAS CRUCES - The A jury trial began Monday in Las Cruces to determine if the Las Cruces Police Department was negligent after a driver - engaged in a high-speed chase through town - struck and killed a pedestrian in 2005.
Jury selection got under way Monday as the estate of Alvin Moore began a suit claiming the city is liable for damages after 24-year-old Carlos Preciado Jr. struck and killed the 68-year-old man the morning of July 25, 2005.
The trial is expected to continue through the week, with opening arguments possible as early as today.
