The following indictments were returned this month by a federal grand jury in U.S. District Court in Las Cruces:

• Juan Lorenzo Barela Jr. is charged with distributing child pornography and possessing child pornography in Do-a Ana County on July 25, 2010. The material is alleged to depict a man raping a girl of about 10, according to the indictment. Barela is also separately charged with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition: a Marlin model 60 .22 caliber rifle, a Remington Mohawk 10C .22 caliber rifle, a Winchester 69A .22 caliber rifle, a Noble 222T .22 caliber rifle, a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12-gauge shotgun, a Herbert Schmidt 21S .22 caliber rifle, a Rohm RG66 .22 caliber rifle and approximately 1,227 rounds of .22 caliber cartridges and 12-gauge shotgun shells.

• Gloria Benitez and Christina Vasquez are charged with conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana on Oct. 26, 2010, in Do-a Ana County.

• Hernan Canseco-Vasquez is charged with transporting an illegal alien and conspiring to do so on Nov. 2, 2010, in Hidalgo County, N.M.

• Robert Walter Forster is charged with traveling in Do-a Ana County and elsewhere without failing to register and update his registration as a sex offender between February and December 2010.

• Jose Moreira is charged with two counts of transporting illegal immigrants in Do-a Ana County on Oct. 27, 2010.

is charged with transporting an illegal immigrant in Do-a Ana County, aiding two illegal immigrants in re-entering the country and conspiracy on Oct. 11, 2010.

• Rebecca Jewel Seiler is charged with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition on May 20, 2009, in Grant County, N.M. Seiler allegedly had a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 caliber revolver, a Ruger P90DC .45 caliber pistol, a Winchester model 94 30-30 caliber rifle, a Henry .44 caliber rifle, a Savage .22 caliber rifle, a New England Arms Sportster .17 caliber rifle, 643 rounds of assorted .22, .44 and .45 caliber ammunition and 30 rounds of Cascade Cartridge .45 caliber ammunition. Seiler had been previously convicted in Yakima County, Wash., of forgery and methamphetamine possession.

• Fernando Torres is charged with two counts of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition: a Taurus PT25/7 PRO semi-automatic pistol with a chambered .40 caliber round and 21 additional rounds of ammunition and a Dan Wesson revolver with a chambered .44 Magnum round on Aug. 14 in Chaves County, N.M. Torres was convicted in Chaves County, N.M., in 2002 of drug possession with intent to distribute.

• Javier Torres is charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine on June 4, 2008, carrying a firearm (a Ruger P95 9 mm pistol) during a drug-trafficking crime, two counts of possession of a firearm (a Keltec P-11 9 mm pistol and a Ruger P95DC 9 mm pistol) after a misdemeanor domestic violence conviction in 2006, conspiracy and two counts of distribution of more than 50 grams of methamphetamine on Nov. 4 and Nov. 5, 2009, in Chaves County, N.M.

An indictment is only an accusation. All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
