LAS CRUCES - Jeffrey Cruickshank, 25, was sentenced Friday to 10 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender when he moved to New Mexico from Illinois in 2010, U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales announced. After his prison term, the Las Cruces man will be on supervised release for five years.
On Oct. 5, 2010, Cruickshank pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to register when he moved to Las Cruces in February 2010, according to a criminal complaint filed March 9, 2010. Cruickshank was required to register as a sex offender because he had been convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a child in Wisconsin in 2006.
Assistant United States Attorney Amanda Gould prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the United States Marshals Service.
