WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Steve Pearce, R-N.M., was appointed Wednesday to three subcommittees of the House Committee on Financial Services, according to a news release.
He'll serve on the Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises, Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit and Oversight and Investigations subcommittees.
The Capital Markets subcommittee is responsible for laws pertaining to U.S. capital markets, the securities industry, as well as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It is also responsible for the oversight of the Securities and Exchange Commission and self-regulatory organizations.
The Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit subcommittee, where Pearce served during his previous tenure in Congress, handles the oversight of regulators and works to ensure the safety of the banking system.
The Oversight and Investigations subcommittee is responsible for the oversight and investigation of all entities under the Financial Services Committee's jurisdiction.
"I look forward to serving the people of New Mexico through these subcommittees," said Pearce in a statement. "I have long argued that Main Street should not be punished for the mistakes of Wall Street. Regulation should be implemented with precision, so as not to overburden the small businesses that form the backbone of this nation."
