LAS CRUCES - New Mexico State University will hold its second Research Rally at 9 a.m. today at Anderson Hall, Room N-2018, to honor faculty and staff for their recent $1.4 million grant, funded by the National Science Foundation, to provide insights into the relationships between traditional water management systems, communities and landscapes.
The study will involve hydrologists, sociologists, economists, anthropologists, remote sensing specialists and rangeland and ecosystem scientists from NMSU, the University of New Mexico, Sandia Labs, New Mexico Tech University, Maxwell Museum at UNM, the University of Idaho, the University of Nevada at Reno and the University of Concepcion in Chile, as well as the New Mexico Acequia Association and community members from El Rito, Arroyo Hondo, Valdez, Velarde and Alcalde, and surrounding areas.
NMSU students, faculty and staff as well as New Mexico legislators, local government officials, the general public and the media are invited to attend. The lead researchers will speak about the acequia project and its potential impacts on New Mexico, and will be available for questions.
