LAS CRUCES -- The Las Cruces school board toured the construction site of the new comprehensive high school on Wednesday afternoon.

The school is located at the intersection of Dripping Springs Road and Sonoma Ranch Boulevard and construction is now 42 percent complete.

Around 2,000 ninth- to 12th-grade students will roam the halls of the 344,000-square-foot building come fall of 2012.

Superintendent Stan Rounds said that the process of naming a principal will begin in September. Once a principal is named, the district will ask for community and student input to determine the school name, colors and mascot. These details will then need to be approved by the school board.

The $100 million project is funded by the state, the 2008 bond issue and the Public School Capital Outlay Committee.
