LAS CRUCES - The New Mexico State University Police Department is again offering its popular women's self-defense course, "Fight Like A Girl," from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Jan. 23, and its pepper spray defense course from 3 to 5 p.m. Jan. 26.

"Fight Like A Girl," a free, full-contact class is for women 16 and older, focuses on the most common sexual assault scenarios. Students are taught to avoid a man's strengths while employing their own unique strengths against a man's weakest targets. Students use full-contact responses against instructors wearing specially armored suits. "Girls on Guard" self-defense material is also taught.

The pepper spray course provides instruction on the proper use and legal parameters of using pepper spray. Participants will need to purchase a can of pepper spray and a training module, available for $25 at the Barnes and Noble campus bookstore.

Space is limited. Anyone interested in signing up for either course should e-mail amfranci@nmsu.edu to reserve a spot.
