LAS CRUCES - A man facing a 10-year sentence for illegally re-entering the country is again being sought by police on charges he attacked his estranged wife in front of their children.
Miguel Gonzales, 26, whose last known address is 5825 Dune Drive in Las Cruces, could still be in the Do-a Ana County area, according to authorities.
The Do-a Ana Sheriff's Office asked Friday for the public's help finding Gonzales.
Gonzales appeared to be drunk when he is alleged to have showed up at his wife's East Mesa home the night of Dec. 18, according to court documents. The woman told police she and her young son and daughter were asleep when Gonzales woke them and she let him in, according to court documents. Once inside, Gonzales allegedly took the three into a bedroom, confiscated the woman's car keys and phone, and told her he wouldn't leave until he was given money. Gonzales then allegedly slammed the woman's head into the wall; grabbed her hair, pulling a clump from her head; punched the wall; and smacked the woman in the face, leaving a visible scratch and swelling to her eyebrow. During the altercation, Gonzales allegedly refused to let the woman take their children to another room, away from the abuse.
Gonzales, whose criminal history includes charges of sexual assault, resisting arrest and cocaine possession, is in the country illegally and has been deported before, according to the sheriff's office.
His latest charges include false imprisonment, battery
