LAS CRUCES - A gathering of emergency vehicles and personnel spotted Thursday at the intersection of Amador Avenue and Compress Road was a military training exercise, the Las Cruces Fire Department confirmed Friday.

Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Teams from across New Mexico participated in a six-hour training to prepare for a chemical or radioactive terrorism event Thursday, LCFD Lt. Mike Martinez said.

The fire department's hazardous materials team assisted in the training.
