LAS CRUCES - By placing 15th out of all Air Force Junior ROTC units worldwide - more than 850 total - the Mayfield High School AFJROTC Marksmanship Team has qualified for the service national competition, said retired Maj. The national competition will be held Feb. 24-26 in Anniston, Ala.

"This is the first year Mayfield has fielded a marksmanship (air rifle) team. A dedicated team of six students has been working diligently all year to accomplish this," said Thalmann.

Making up the competition team are MHS juniors William Murphy VIII and Sydney Sullivant and freshmen William Bonsack and Justin Krebs, he said. The other team members are freshmen Joel Forbes and Derek Fernandez.
