LAS CRUCES - A Las Cruces decorating enthusiast won a national holiday cake decorating contest sponsored by Women's Day Magazine.

Meagan Buck won around $250 in Wilton Bakeware for her 8-inch round pumpkin cake toped with cream cheese frosting and sprinkled with cinnamon candies and gold dragée. The bow was made of rolled fondant.

"I thought it was really Chistmas-y and it was something pretty easy to do, and I wanted to send something that people could look at and replicate at home," said Buck, who entered the contest after a friend sent her the link over Facebook.

Buck donated the winning cake to a bake sale sponsored by Citizens Bank of Las Cruces, where her husband, Grant, works. The bake sale was held to raise money for an employee with a sick child, Buck said.

Cake decorating has become an extensive hobby for Buck, who teaches cake decorating classes at Hobby Lobby and also has a website of of her creations, www.lascrucescakes.com.
