LAS CRUCES - Due to last week's storms and the impact it had on businesses and school closures, as well as continual power and water outages, United Blood services has experienced a depletion of its blood supply.
Cancellations of blood drives and centers being closed due to utility situations have caused UBS to lose an estimated 651 units of blood from Wednesday through Sunday.
For that reason, UBS is seeking new donors and asking current donors to donate blood this week. UBS needs an average of 175 units of blood daily to keep up with the supplies that area hospitals need.
Donors can come to UBS, at 1200 Commerce Drive, or call (575) 527-1322, to make an appointment. Donors should make sure they have eaten a good breakfast or lunch, and have taken in plenty of fluids before donating.
UBS is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday; noon to 7 p.m. Thursday; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
