EL PASO - The crisis caused by the frigid cold weather that almost paralyzed El Paso and the region last week continued Saturday.

El Paso Water Utilities ordered mandatory restrictions on water use throughout El Paso and surrounding areas Saturday and they urged all residents to boil tap water before drinking it.

Officials said the order would last at least through today.

Utility officials asked residents to hold back on taking showers, using washing machines and dishwashers. Officials said the conservation measures are necessary because 10 of the city's 70 reservoirs are low or nearing empty, resulting in low water pressure or no water at all in some areas. Customers throughout the El Paso area have experienced loss of water service.

Residents in Sunland Park were also having difficulties with their water service and were also urged to boil tap water before drinking it. Sunland Park officials have contacted the New Mexico Office of Emergency Management and requested potable water.
