LAS CRUCES - The U.S. Marshals Service will begin offering internships to New Mexico State University students this fall, the local bureau announced Friday.

Applications are being accepted now.

Students interested in federal law enforcement will obtain educational work experience and an understanding of the role of the U.S. Marshals Service in the justice system by studying fields including investigations, fugitive operations, court and judicial security, prisoner operations, administrative services and agency management.

A similar program at the University of New Mexico has provided internships to 20 students for more than six years.
