LAS CRUCES - In icy conditions, with temperatures in the single digits, Las Cruces firefighters extinguished an attic fire Friday morning in the 500 block of North Alameda Boulevard, according to a news release.
The downtown structure fire was reported just before 7 a.m. and arriving fire crews found heavy black smoke rolling out of the eaves of the residence, according to department spokesman Steve Alexander.
No injuries were reported, the release said.
With the home's residents evacuated, crews made a quick attack on the structure and contained the fire within 20 minutes of arrival. The structure sustained fire, smoke and water damage, which has not yet been determined.
Firefighters do not yet know what caused the fire.
