Edward J. Perkins, left, former U.S. ambassador to South Africa and the United Nations, speaks with C. Payne Lucas Sr., co-founder and past president of Africare, during New Mexico State University's Model United Nations' third annual "Night at the U.N." banquet Thursday at the Las Cruces Convention Center. Perkins was the keynote speaker for the fundraising event, which will help with travel expenses for the organization to participate in the National Model United Nations conference in New York, April 19-23.
