LAS CRUCES - Las Cruces Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying a man who tried to abduct a woman Thursday morning.

The woman told police that at around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, she was walking eastbound near the intersection of Walnut Street and Griggs Avenue when a man driving a black 2-door Toyota - possibly a Corolla - pulled up along side her and attempted to force her into the car.

The woman was able to successfully fight off the man and escaped to safety. She was treated at a local hospital for relatively minor injuries.

The suspect is described as black, possibly in his mid-30s with a medium build.
