LAS CRUCES - The Las Cruces school board voted unanimously Tuesday to extend the contract of Superintendent Stan Rounds through June 30, 2013. The vote lengthens his current contract by one year. The approval came after the board met privately with Rounds on his mid-year evaluation.
Board members Connie Phillips, Bonnie Votaw, Chuck Davis and Maria Flores all voted for the contract extension. Former board member Serena Shoop recently resigned her District 2 position, and her replacement is expected to be named by the board by mid-March.
Rounds, 59, became superintendent in February 2007. He has been a New Mexico educator for more than 37 years and has 24 years of experience as a superintendent in four New Mexico school districts.
