LAS CRUCES - Two German short-haired pointers need a good home after their owner unexpectedly died last week.
Brother and sister Gus and Greta are 5-year-old purebred pointers.
The dogs are up-to-date with vaccinations, have been neutered and spayed and are house trained. They are free to a good home so long as they are adopted as a pair and they have a yard to roam, said Mary Saggerson of the Argus Pet Center in Las Cruces.
Their owner brought the dogs to the kennel mid-January. Following his death, his family didn't want the dogs and turned ownership over to the kennel.
The dogs will be euthanized if they can't find a home, Saggerson said.
"Their life span is up to 12 years. They will be 6 in May and still have a lot of life in them," she said.
Gus had a small surgery recently to remove a non-cancerous fatty deposit on his back and Greta is deaf, but Saggerson said she is not skittish as a result of her hearing loss.
"Beyond that, they are in perfect health and great dogs. I'd take them myself but I have five animals at home," she said.
