LAS CRUCES - Patricia Lawrence has memories as well as art to share in the annual Mini Art Gallery Love of Art Show opening with an artists' reception from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. today at Munson Center, 975 S. Mesquite St.
"Ruth Thomkinson was one of our stained glass artists. This picture will be in the art show in her memory," said Lawrence, describing an oil painting that depicts a sweeping high desert canyon landscape (see inset).
The show is a lively celebration of artists over 50, who look forward to their own special celebration of February for the Love of Art Month in Las Cruces.
It's the first exhibit for painters Josie Bazan, 65, of Anthony and Ann Salazar, 67, of Las Cruces.
Bazan chose a spiritual theme, "Madonna At Prayer," and so did Salazar, who created "Grace," an oil painting.
"I've been painting for several years, but I think a class I've been taking here has refined my technique," Salazar said.
"I made a small stained glass panel of a teapot. It's the very first stained glass I've ever done and the first time I've been in an exhibit," said Mariellen Patrick, 74, of Las Cruces.
Featured will be paintings, drawings, China paintings, multi-media works, stained glass, pottery, wood carving, jewelry, quilts, embroidery, crochet and knit items and other crafts.
Response has been so enthusiastic in previous years that organizers have had to set limits on the number of submissions.
