LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana County commissioners on Tuesday will consider approving the issuance of up to $81.6 million of industrial revenue bonds for a proposed solar energy project.
The developer, NRG Solar Roadrunner, is proposing to build a solar power generating plant in Santa Teresa.
According to the agenda, the commission approved a resolution in favor of the project on Sept. 14, 2010.
The company would use funding from the bonds to build and equip its proposed facility. The county has said it won't take on liability of the bonds, which would be repaid by the company. The company also would reimburse the county $10,000 per year for administering the bonds and pay out $47,000 annually to make up for tax revenue it's not obligated to pay.
The measure under consideration is an ordinance to issue the bonds.
Also Tuesday, the commission will hear an update from the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance and consider a resolution to abate personal property tax for a solar energy project proposed by SunEdison.
