LAS CRUCES - The Emerald Isle Boutique and Kaya's Cottons and Things for the Desert are teaming up to collect toys for Jardín de los Niños for the second annual Shop and Share, taking place now through Saturday. Both merchants have asked customers to donate a toy or coat to benefit the nonprofit organization that helps homeless and near homeless children.

"These are children that could be completely forgotten, so we want to make certain that doesn't happen," Hiram Davis, owner of Kaya's, said.

The stores were able to deliver several large bags of unwrapped toys last year to Jardín. They are hopeful customers we be equally generous this holiday season.

"This provides us with the opportunity to make sure that all of the children in our community receive a gift," said Louise and Kelli Burchell, owners of The Emerald Isle.

Both retailers are offering discounts and gift certificates to customers who participate. Each store is displaying a tree from which shoppers can select a special ornament and receive discounts.

The Emerald Isle Boutique is located in Mesilla in the Mercado de Mesilla. Kaya's Cottons and Things for the Desert is located at 2340 Avenida de Mesilla, also in Mesilla.
