LAS CRUCES - A county supervisor already accused of writing thousands of dollars worth of bad city checks has been charged with stealing a computer, an off-road vehicle and other items.
David Henry Bowersox , 33, was indicted Thursday on charges he embezzled an ATV, a generator, a printer, a laptop computer, a trailer sprayer, a pressure washer and a utility sprayer that had been entrusted to him between January and October.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in 3rd Judicial District Court before Judge Stephen Bridgforth.
Bowersox, who also uses the alias "Mike Garua," was hired a year after a felony conviction for the same type of offense, according to court documents. Originally from Ruidoso, Bowersox began working with the county in May 1997 as a seasonal vector control worker and a landfill guard, according to county documents.
In addition, Bowersox is already awaiting trial on October charges he allegedly purchased more than $13,000 of merchandise on fraudulent purchase orders from the city of Las Cruces, according to documents filed in 3rd Judicial District Court.
As supervisor for the Do-a Ana County vector control department, which manages mosquitoes, Bowersox earns $31,179 a year, according to the county.
Between 2004 and 2008, he was also arrested three times for battering a household member, but all of those charges were dismissed.
