LAS CRUCES - A 28-year-old Las Cruces man who allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and her 5-year-old daughter Saturday has been located and arrested.
Ruben Reyes, of the 1700 block of west Hadley Avenue, is charged with kidnapping, battery against a household member, negligent child abuse, interference with communications and criminal damage to property.
Reyes was spotted driving late Monday afternoon and was pulled over by a Las Cruces Police officer. He was detained without further incident. Because he violated terms of his probation, Reyes will be held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the 2600 block of Huntington Drive where the incident originated. Police learned that a 24-year-old woman and her 5-year-old daughter were arriving home at around 2:45 a.m. when they were allegedly confronted by Reyes, the ex-boyfriend of the woman.
LCPD detectives allege that Reyes assaulted the woman and forced her and the child into a vehicle, and then drove them to an area near Burn Lake. There, Reyes threw away the key to the car so the woman would not be able to drive away.
Reyes allegedly ran from the area when another vehicle approached and the woman screamed for help. The woman then was able to locate a spare key and fled the area with her daughter. The woman and the girl were not physically injured.
