LAS CRUCES - Shannon Vallez Duffy, a hotel consultant from Las Cruces, won two tickets to the 2010 Sun Bowl, simply by becoming a fan of the Las Cruces Sun-News on Facebook.
"My husband and I had thought about going to Sun Bowl, but we heard they were all sold out. I saw the advertisement (the ticket giveaway announcement) in the Sun-News. I was on Facebook at the time and I decided to become a fan," she said.
Vallez Duffy said she'll attend the Sun Bowl on Friday in El Paso with her husband, who has gone to the past "three or four" Sun Bowls. "He's very excited about these tickets," she said, noting that they'll be rooting for Notre Dame.
The Sun Bowl ticket giveaway sponsored by the Sun-News was announced Dec. 16 and encouraged people to become fans of the Sun-News Facebook page. All fans were eligible for the contest. The Sun-News, which has routinely given away tickets to New Mexico State University men's basketball games to its Facebook fans, plans to do similar giveaways in the future.
