New Mexico State Police Lt. Frank "Moose" Musitano

LAS CRUCES - New Mexico State Police Lt. Frank "Moose" Musitano, a respected and hard-working law enforcement officer, was laid to rest Thursday morning in Las Cruces.

Musitano, 54, of Las Cruces died Sunday morning, surrounded by family, after a battle with liver cancer.

Born in Philadelphia, Musitano entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1973 and married his wife Ramona Aguirre in 1975. After 14 years of service that took him to North Carolina, Hawaii and Arizona, Musitano joined the New Mexico State Police in 1988 and was stationed in Lordsburg, Mountainair, Raton and finally, Las Cruces, according to his obituary.

In addition to his wife, Musitano is survived by two daughters and their spouses, a son and his partner, a brother and his wife, four grandchildren and numerous in-laws and extended family members.

Family and friends took part in a funeral Mass this morning at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, followed by the Rite of Committal and Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Ave., with full New Mexico State Police honors.

In lieu of flowers, family has requested donations be made to New Mexico State Police, P.O. Box 13249, Las Cruces, N.M., 88013.
