LAS CRUCES - A 14-month-old boy who was allegedly abducted Tuesday evening and the family member who took him were both found Wednesday along Interstate 25 north of Truth or Consequences.

Las Cruces police detectives believe Brandon Chapo was taken from his mother, without consent, by a relative at around 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. The infant and 29-year-old Jennifer Platero, a cousin of the boy's mother, were located by a New Mexico State Police officer on duty along I-25 Wednesday afternoon.

The boy was said to be in good condition and was being cared for by Child Protective Services until he can be reunited with his mother.

Detectives learned that the relatives drove to Las Cruces on Tuesday and planned on staying the night at a local motel until Platero left with the boy.

Detectives have yet to interview Platero.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are possible.
