MESILLA - The alleged getaway driver in what was described as a late-night revenge burglary has been charged for the Christmas crime.
Elizabeth Iris Encinias, 27, of the 7800 block of Santa Maria, in El Paso, is charged with burglary, larceny and two counts of conspiracy, according to documents presented to the district attorney's office Monday by Do-a Ana sheriff's investigator Bo Nevarez.
Fermin Carrillo Jr., 30, who described Encinias as his common-law wife, was arrested early Christmas after allegedly torching through a padlock to steal from a U.S. Marine and Toys for Tots coordinator he felt owed him, according to the Do-a Ana Sheriff's Office.
Deputy Mesilla Marshal Edward Dimatteo spotted a 1997 Chevy Blazer, with its lights off, pulling out of Sucker Punch Sally's motorcycle shop around 2 a.m. Saturday. It was followed by a new, black and pewter custom "Pan-man" motorcycle from Purgatory Cycle Works, the company belonging to the manager of Sucker Punch Sally's.
Encinias, who was driving the Blazer, told Dimatteo her "husband" had gone to his former workplace to pick up equipment and the man's motorcycle - unbeknownst to the owner of the shop.
Encinias said she hadn't left the truck during the alleged burglary, but had witnessed Carrillo getting out, shaking the business doors, loading up the back seat of the SUV with items and telling her to "go."
Carrillo, also from El Paso, was charged with breaking and entering, burglary, theft of more than $2,500 in
Las Cruces Magistrate Court Judge Kent Wingenroth set Carrillo's bond at $40,000 cash-only.
Encinias remains in El Paso, awaiting possible indictment by a Do-a Ana County grand jury at a later date.
