LAS CRUCES -- "Bats and Our Eco-System" is this month's Descubra el Desierto topic during the Las Cruces Museum of Natural History's lecture series at 7 p.m. Dec. 14.
The event is free and open to the public.
Ken Abalos, park ranger at the Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park and an expert on the subject, will speak. Bats are among the most diverse groups of mammals and, in the past, were numerous and inhabited varied geographical areas. Abalos' lecture explains the importance of bats and dispels the fallacies. He has worked within the New Mexico State Park system for four years after studying natural history management at California Polytechnic University.
