LAS CRUCES -- Medicare beneficiaries in the Las Cruces area can get help with reviewing their health and drug coverage for 2011 during one-on-one counseling at the Munson Senior Center, 875 S. Mesquite St., on Tuesday.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department will help Medicare beneficiaries take advantage of the annual open enrollment period, when seniors can review their current plans and make changes in their coverage.
At Tuesday's event, counselors will be available to sit down with beneficiaries and provide help with selecting and enrolling in a health or drug plan for 2011. Beneficiaries wanting help should bring a list of their prescriptions, including the full names of the drugs and the dosages.
Open enrollment ends Dec. 31. Beneficiaries can go to www.medicare.gov or call (800) MEDICARE (633-4227) to make changes in their Medicare coverage. Those in Original Medicare who don't have prescription drug coverage also can enroll in a drug plan during open enrollment. Since coverage varies, CMS recommends that people with Medicare use the open enrollment period to think about how their health may have changed and what their needs will be for the coming year.
Beneficiaries with limited income and resources may qualify for extra help to pay for prescription drug costs by visiting www.socialsecurity.gov
