LAS CRUCES - The 3rd Judicial District Court will soon have two vacancies on the bench.
Judge Stephen Bridgforth has announced his retirement, according to a press release issued Thursday evening by the state Judicial Nominating Commission. Judge Jerald Valentine had previously announced that he also will be stepping down.
Applications for those seeking to replace either of the two judges can be downloaded at lawschool.unm.edu/judsel/application.php, or obtained by calling Sandra Bauman at 505-277-4700. The deadline for applications has been extended to Jan. 3, 2011.
The Judicial Nominating Commission will meet Jan. 13 at the district courthouse in Las Cruces to evaluate applications before making its recommendation to Gov. Susana Martinez, who will make the final selection to fill the vacancies.
