MESILLA - The Mesilla Plaza will be closed to vehicular traffic today.

Traffic in and out of the Plaza will be detoured at its entrances and exits. Barriers will be posted.

The closure is to allow volunteers to place luminarias throughout the Plaza, and for people to walk throughout the Plaza to view them.

Mesilla's traditional Christmas Eve ceremony, with the lighting of hundreds of luminarias on the Plaza, and the singing of Christmas carols, will begin at 6 p.m.

The Plaza will remain closed to vehicles after the ceremony, but some restaurants will remain open for business.
