LAS CRUCES - A 20-year-old previously convicted of armed robbery won't do any time in prison after being convicted of a vehicle burglary.

Jose Martin Salas and two older men participated in a purse-grabbing and a knife-point robbery of a Sunland Park store in February, 2006, when Salas was 16.

This month, Salas was sentenced for his part in a vehicle burglary that took place July 10, according to court documents. He was convicted in October of felony vehicle burglary, larceny and conspiracy.

Third Judicial District Court Judge Lisa Schultz suspended Salas' three-year sentence and sentenced him to 96 days in jail - the time he had already spent waiting for the matter to go to trial. Salas was ordered to serve the remainder of the three-year sentence on supervised probation.

Salas, of 113 Stephanie in Chaparral, N.M., or 855 Clark Street, Apt. 28, Anthony, N.M., was also ordered to complete 40 hours of community service and an alcohol or drug abuse screening program.
