LAS CRUCES - A former union official has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Las Cruces on numerous fraud and theft charges.
Gloria Porter, 64, of Chaparral was charged with wire fraud, mail fraud and aggravated identity theft in a 107-count indictment. Porter, a White Sands Missile Range employee at the time of the alleged crimes, was serving as national vice president of the National Federation of Federal Employees, secretary-treasurer of the Army Military Council - local unions representing NFFE members employed by the Army - and president of the local union.
She allegedly used a debit card to access an AMC account to fraudulently purchase more than $13,000 in goods and services for her personal use. She is also accused of forging the signature of the AMC president on a 2006 fiscal disclosure report to conceal the fraud.
