LAS CRUCES - The New Mexico Section Society for Range Management will hold its annual winter meeting Jan. 5-7 at the Hotel Encanto in Las Cruces.

One of the highlights of the meeting will be a tour of the West Portillo Grassland Restoration Project, headed by the Bureau of Land management Las Cruces District Office. Approximately 26,000 acres of creosote bush-invaded grassland near the West Portillo Mountains were treated with chemical herbicide in an effort to restore native grasslands, improve watershed health and enhance wildlife habitat.
