LAS CRUCES -- An elderly man has died two weeks after being struck by a car and police are investigating whether the crash caused his death.
Refugio Miranda, 85, was coherent and speaking after an eastbound GMC Yukon struck him in a crosswalk at Picacho Avenue and Melendres Street at around 11 a.m. Dec. 1.
While he was initially transported to a Las Cruces hospital, Miranda was eventually airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso, where he was placed in intensive care and ultimately placed on life support. He was removed from life support Tuesday.
The state Office of the Medical Investigator will determine if the car crash caused Miranda's death after an autopsy.
Gabriel A. Soltero, 27, of Las Cruces, the driver of the Yukon, has been cited for failing to yield for a pedestrian, driving without insurance and driving on a suspended license.
