LAS CRUCES -- Police arrested a 25-year-old man already on probation who was seen with a loaded handgun inside a Las Cruces bar.
Adam Nick Alvarez, of the 800 block of Luna Street, is charged with one count of unlawful carrying a firearm in a licensed liquor establishment. Police also discovered that Alvarez, who is on probation for battery against a household member, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for a drunken driving conviction.
Shortly after midnight Friday, police were called to Jose Murphy's at 1201 E. Amador Ave. where witnesses reported seeing Alvarez display a handgun inside the bar.
Officers arrived and learned that the suspect was carrying a handgun in a front pocket. When officers located Alvarez in a bathroom, they saw the suspect place both hands in his pockets. The officers acted quickly to take control of his hands and subdue Alvarez, and located a .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun carrying two rounds in the right-front pocket of Alvarez's pants.
Alvarez was booked into the Do-a Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $5,500.
