LAS CRUCES - Do-a Ana County Clerk Lynn Ellins has scheduled a 10 a.m. ceremony Dec. 22 in the Commission Chambers of the Do-a Ana County Government Center, 845 N. Motel Blvd., to recognize student poll workers who assisted with the Nov. 2 General Elections.

Ellins said he and his staff were so impressed by the student workers' performance that he wanted to recognize them in a public forum with their families and friends in attendance. During the ceremony, Ellins said he will publicly recognize each student and present a personalized certificate of appreciation for their contributions to the smooth elections process.

This was the first time students were allowed as poll workers at the election sites, thanks to a bill passed by the 2009 New Mexico Legislature.

"These students surpassed everyone's expectations," Ellins said. "We have definite plans to widen this base of poll employees going forward."
