LAS CRUCES - A child's joy, a senior citizen's smile, and a holiday wish etched in colored markers and glitter were the lessons of the day Wednesday at Hermosa Heights Elementary School.

Hermosa students hand-decorated 500 gift bags that will be stocked full of gifts collected through Home Instead Senior Care's "Be a Santa to a Senior program."

Think of it as homework to make the holidays homey.

The little elves are playing their part in making sure gifts, collected locally at the Mesilla Valley Mall, get to senior citizens who might otherwise have little under the tree this holiday.

Volunteers will fill the Santa, Frosty, and snowflake covered bags with goodies and spread the holiday joy around Do-a Ana County.
