LAS CRUCES - World AIDS Day will be observed around the world today. In Las Cruces, First Christian Church - DOC, at 1809 El Paseo Road, will hold an observance at 7 p.m.
The theme this year is "Lights for HIV and Human Rights." Everyone is welcome to attend, and donations of canned food will be gladly accepted for the food pantry for clients. The program will consist of music by community musicians, talks by individuals and candle lighting to raise awareness.
World AIDS Day is an important reminder that the fight against HIV is far from over. Every 9 1/2 minutes another person in the United States becomes infected with HIV, which means 56,300 new infections each year.
