LAS CRUCES - A man who allegedly attacked a woman with a Tonka Truck, then allegedly barricaded himself and his baby son in his home for hours, was arrested along with three others who allegedly attacked a couple who tried to help the victim.
Pierre Cordell Roundtree, 26, Sherrell Loise Faye Jackson, 24, Phylicia A. Manning, 20, and Ricky Alexander, 18, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the brawl at a home in the 600 block of Foster Road, according to the Las Cruces Police Department.
Detectives believe that at around 4 p.m. Monday, Roundtree approached a 42-year-old woman and struck her face with a Tonka Truck toy.
Two passers-by, a married couple, tried to intervene but were instead physically assaulted by the four suspects. The victims were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Jackson, Manning and Alexander were arrested shortly after the brawl as they drove into the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter on Walton Boulevard.
Roundtree was found, with his son, at their residence in the 1600 block of Walnut Street, where he initially opened the door for the first responding officer but quickly slammed it shut. LCPD's SWAT team was called to the scene and, over the course of several hours, attempted to persuade Roundtree out of the apartment.
Finally, after 9 p.m., Roundtree emerged holding his baby son - covered in feces - in front of him, and was taken into custody.
The baby was transported to an area hospital,
Roundtree is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, negligent child abuse and two counts of contempt.
Alexander is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and aggravated battery on a peace officer. Manning and Jackson each face two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
